The energy production based in fossil fuels is the foundation of our civilisation. Unfortunately, the accumulation of the emissions derived from it is becoming one of the biggest challenges for the mankind.
The abundancy of fossil fuels, and simply the reliability of its production difficults the adoption of alternative energy sources. However, the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) is becoming the main objection against the fossil generation.
The more adequate step is to use technologies that ”clean“ the power. Basically, everything is focused in methods that reduce the CO2 footprint of every kWh of energy generated since the emissions cannot be eliminated completely.
One of the most obvious ways is the increase of generation efficiency. More energy shall be obtained from the same amount of fuel. In existing power generation systems, this is not always easy to achieve, because normally it implies the replacement or refurbishment of expensive equipment. If the generating equipment is located in a place with good solar irradiation conditions, it is possible to increase its efficiency (achieving reduction of GHG emissions) by using a solar thermal systems to suplement the energy
generation. The integration with a
solar boiler can be easily applied to already existing equipment. The situation is even better if the solar system can be included already in the design phase.
